How Does the DEWA Electricity Bill Calculator Work?
Dubai residents are billed for electricity by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) using a tiered slab system — the more you consume, the higher the rate you pay on the units above each threshold. This calculator applies those slabs cumulatively to your monthly kWh figure, just as DEWA does on your actual bill.
The four residential slabs (cumulative)
The first 2,000 kWh in any billing month are charged at 0.23 AED per kWh; units between 2,001 and 4,000 kWh at 0.28 AED; units from 4,001 to 6,000 kWh at 0.32 AED; and consumption above 6,000 kWh at 0.38 AED. Because the tariff is cumulative, a household using 3,000 kWh does not pay 0.28 AED on all 3,000 units — only the 1,000 units above the first slab attract the higher rate. The calculator breaks this down row by row.
The fuel surcharge
On top of the slab charge, DEWA adds a fuel surcharge reflecting the cost of fuel used to generate electricity. The current rate is 0.065 AED per kWh and it applies uniformly to all units. Because DEWA reviews this figure periodically, the calculator lets you edit it.

Dubai-specific context
A typical Dubai apartment uses roughly 1,500–2,500 kWh per month in cooler months, rising to 3,500–5,000 kWh in summer when AC runs continuously. Villas with multiple AC units, pools or EV chargers can exceed 6,000 kWh in July and August, pushing much of their usage into the top 0.38 AED slab. How do I find my monthly kWh on my DEWA bill?
The DEWA app or your bill shows "Electricity Consumed (kWh)" for the billing period (usually 30 days). Enter that figure directly for the most accurate result.
Why does my actual DEWA bill differ from this estimate?
This calculator covers electricity consumption and fuel surcharge only. Your real bill also includes a housing fee, sewerage charge, municipality fee and 5% VAT, which can add 20–35% on top of the base electricity figure.
Are DEWA rates the same for apartments and villas?
The slab rates here apply to residential customers generally. Commercial, industrial or mixed-use meters may use a different tariff schedule — check your tariff code or contact DEWA.
How often does DEWA change its tariff?
DEWA reviews its tariff periodically; the fuel surcharge changes more often than the slab rates. Update the fuel surcharge field yourself if rates change.
Can a faulty electrical installation increase my DEWA bill?
